Use with caution Mar 01, 2004
By J. Miele Ok folks, this is not a joke. I am a real fan of hot sauce, hot peppers and anything that makes my eyes water, and I have to honestly say that Dave's Insanity Sauce is absolutely the hottest thing I've ever tasted. I use one drop in about 25 ounces of home-made tomato sauce and it makes the sauce noticibly hot. This is NOT a sauce to dash into your soup or to liven up some salsa. DON'T USE IT LIKE TABASCO!!! It is a heavy-duty hot sauce that should be used as in ingredient when cooking a decent amount of a dish. My brother doubted its powers so I poked the end of a toothpick into the sauce and gave it to him. The poor guy freaked and ate more Italian bread than I've ever seen anyone eat in my life. This bottle will last you a long time. Why doesn't it get 5 stars? It's just too hot.

Come on, read the label. One of the manufacturer's suggested uses is removal of driveway oil stains.
For the last five years or so, I have always had a bottle of this sauce on hand specifically for those friends who swear nothing is ever too hot. The ultimate gratification comes from watching as they disregard any admonishments that direct consumption of any amount greater than a swab on a toothpick is too much. It is particularly helpful to quiet those who cannot refrain from talking over movies or provide undesired running commentary during sports events. Invariably, for next hour their only objective is to regain the ability to breathe normally. The only downside is this ploy only works once.
I like to mix about an 1/8 of a teaspoon with two ounces of regular hot sauce for buffalo wings, or add a dab to any taco sauce, however care is required because you can easily reach a point of diminishing returns as the unavoidable numbing of one's tastebuds makes enjoyment of the food impossible.

Beyond Hot Dec 15, 2003 Even Shakespeare did not have enough of a grasp of the English language to describe how hot this sauce it. It is mind blowing. I put a few good dashes on some BBQ I have eating. I was able to shovel in 3 healthy forkfuls into my mouth before the heat hit. Pow. I was knocked out. All I could do was grab on to the table to brace myself and breath through my mouth. I ate all the bread I could find. I wiped out every square inch of my mouth with a napkin. All in an attempt to ease the heat. It helped only a bit. After about 2 hours, I was almost back to normal. It is that hot. I would think that only 1 drop would heat up a pot of chili. DO NOT try this straight from the bottle. It won't kill you, but is will wound you. Wow.

The Hype of Insanity Apr 20, 2010 So when this sauce came out a number of years ago, it was the king of heat in the initial rush hot sauces experienced. It was the forerunner of super-hot sauces, and now that there has been time for the rest of the industry to catch up. Seeing as there is a new Ultra-hot version, it's almost like Dave's is admitting that it just isn't that hot.
That being said, this sauce is very hot. Not the hottest, but it's plenty hot. However, the taste suffers for this. The taste is pretty much BBQ sauce mixed with vinegar. I cook a lot of chili and this sauce is fine for spicing it up, but I would never rely on this sauce to import flavor. I wouldn't use it alone because you'd add too much heat before you could get the character of the flavor to come through.
For those who say that the sauce is too thick and that they always add too much, I would say your problem is with your technique. You should first pour the sauce into a spoon, or other some measuring device, then empty that into the food.
So all in all, it is fun to try, but there are hotter, tastier sauces.

One Of The Hottest Dec 07, 2005
By K. Walters I have used only two bottles of this sauce over a period of years. I enjoy hot sauce on my food but this one can only be used on large quantities. I use it mostly with chili. One small drop, not dash,in a big bowl will have tears flowing from your eyes! If you like it hot! This is the sauce for you.
